Spring into Action with Spring Haircare Tips
Welcome back, spring!
For many of us, it has been a long, hard, cold winter. And it also feels like just when we’ve gotten our winter haircare routine down pat, the weather takes a new turn, and all of our winter hair tips and tricks go out the window. So, while spring weather and sunshine may be great for boosting our moods and getting us outdoors again, it can also wreak havoc on our hair. Spring weather brings humidity that can cause frizz. And more sunshine can lead to dryness and breakage.
However, you don’t have to sacrifice outside time for healthy hair. We have you covered! Here are our tips for nourished springtime hair:
Get a fresh trim
Nip those split ends in the bud by getting a trim when you start to notice breakage. Split ends move further up the hair shaft if they’re not taken care of early so, if you don’t want to lose too much length, make sure you head to your local Great Clips right away! Happy ends are healthy, trimmed ends!
Embrace serums and creams
With more moisture in the air, you may see more frizz and fly-aways in your hair. Your Great Clips stylist will likely recommend some great serums and creams that can combat these signs of spring. Some of our favorite products are:
- Solutions by Great Clips Glossing Multi-Task Cream
- Healthy Sexy Hair Love Oil
- Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
- Healthy Sexy Hair Core Flex
Avoid heat styling
Give your locks a little break this spring. Your hair is already trying to adjust to the changing weather, and you can give it a hand by putting away your curling iron, flat iron and blow dryer. Heat styling causes damage to your hair and, if your hair is already dry and distraught, applying excess heat will likely make it worse.
Embrace your natural ‘do by applying a moisturizing leave-in conditioner, like Solutions by Great Clips Nourishing Leave-in Conditioner or Healthy Sexy Hair Tri-Wheat Leave-In Conditioner and letting your hair air dry.
You can also try a light pomade, gel or styling cream, which are especially helpful for curly or wavy hair. Try out Style Sexy Hair Curling Crème, Tigi Bed Head Small Talk or Tea Tree Shaping Cream.
Try a more moisturizing shampoo/conditioning combo
It’s not unusual to switch out their shampoo and conditioner each season. As your hair texture and needs change, so should your haircare products. If you’re experiencing breakage, frizz and split ends in the spring, you may want to wash with a shampoo and conditioner that has a more moisturizing formula. We recommend:
- Tea Tree Special Shampoo and Conditioner
- Biolage Hydrasource Shampoo and Conditioner
- Solutions by Great Clips Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner
Products like these will help lock that moisture in, especially when paired with a fabulous leave-in conditioner.
Keep shampooing to a minimum
This is a year-round tip, but it’s especially important in the spring. We recommend avoiding washing your hair every day. In fact, if you can only wash it a couple of times a week, that’s even better! Shampooing strips natural oils from your hair and makes it more susceptible to breakage and dryness. With all of the humidity in the air and increased exposure to the elements, your hair doesn’t need that added stress. Embrace the power of dry shampoo and let your hair bask in its own natural oils.
Drink lots of water
Healthy hair starts from the inside. When the weather changes, it’s important that you increase your hydration. Adding extra water to your daily routine will keep your hair healthy, shiny and nourished.
