Pixie Haircut

Fun Sporty Trendy

A pixie is cut so the hair is very short on the back and sides of the head and slightly longer on top, usually long enough to style with some product and a hair dryer. Pixies generally include lots of layers and long or short bangs to create texture and drama.

Towel dry your hair. Apply texture spray or mousse for volume. Dry sections with a blowdryer, first drying in the opposite direction you want your hair to lay, then switching directions to finish. This will give you extra lift. Finish with a pomade or a texture spray, and use your fingers to position and style the layers. Finish with hairspray for all-day hold.

Towel dry your hair, then apply a volumizing spray or mousse. Use a round brush and blow dry sections of hair, lifting at the roots and then pulling hair down near the ends. Angle the brush to the side when drying your bangs to keep them out of your eyes. Finish with a pomade and use your fingers to smooth any flyaways and position hair as needed. Finish with hairspray for all-day hold.

Start with dry or damp hair. Brush through hair with a pick to detangle. For tighter curls, apply a gel, curl enhancing cream or serum and scrunch or twist into hair.

What to tell your stylist

Love this haircut? Here's what to tell your stylist so you can get this look.

I’d like a pixie cut. I’d like the top of the hair to be layered and texturized, and the sides a little shorter. I’d like it cut up around my ears. I’d also like to clean up the back of the neck so the hair is even across the back.”

Unsure of how short you want to go? Maybe add a little texture for versatility? Ask your stylist what length will work best for your hair!
