Crew Haircut

Classic Low Maintenance Practical

A crew haircut is a classic short hairstyle that is tapered at the sides and back and slightly longer on top. The top is usually between ½ inch to 2 inches, and it can be cut in a way that creates a more piecey, textured look.

Start with damp hair. Using a medium heat setting, blow dry your hair. Lift hair with fingers or a comb to add extra volume. When hair is nearly dry, rub a small amount of pomade or molding cream between palms and work through the top section of your hair. Use your fingers to pull hair up and back from the forehead or to the sides. If desired, finish your look with hairspray for all-day hold.

Apply a pomade or light-medium hold gel, like spray gel, to damp hair and let it air dry to avoid making the curls fuzzy. Once the hair is dry, smooth out any flyaways with a comb or a soft-bristle brush.

What to tell your stylist

I'd like a crew cut where the hair is cut finger length on top and cut with clippers on the sides and back without fading it. I’d like to trim the back of my neck so my hair is even.”
