Classic Fade Haircut

Classic Professional Versatile

The classic fade haircut features longer hair on top with shorter hair on the back and sides that gradually decreases in length until it seamlessly "fades" into the skin. In a classic fade, this occurs near the natural perimeter of the hair, so it fades gradually around the back and sides. The length of the sides can vary, and it is typically indicated by the hair clipper “guard number,” which falls between 0 and 8. Fade haircuts are great for both textured and non-textured hair.

When hair is dry, apply pomade or other texturizing product. Rub a small amount of pomade or molding cream between palms and work through your hair, combing product through with your fingers to create definition and texture.

What to tell your stylist

Love this haircut? Here's what to tell your stylist so you can get this look.

I’d like a classic fade haircut. I'd like to cut the top so that it will stand up when I style it, then gradually fade down, with the fade ending along my natural hairline. I’d like to clean up the back of the neck so the hair is even across the back.”
