MINNEAPOLIS, Feb.18, 2011—When the No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet takes the green flag for the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Raceway on Feb. 19, it will mark the 10 year anniversary of Great Clips’ sponsorship of the NASCAR’s Nationwide Series (NNS). Great Clips, which is currently the longest-running primary sponsor in the series, began its sponsorship in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Christian Elder, in what was then known as the NASCAR Busch Series. The 2011 kickoff race will mark the 316th race that the Great Clips car will appear on the track and on national television.
Over the 10 years, Great Clips has raced with every manufacturer in the series; and in 2011, returns to Chevrolet, along with the new team ownership of Turner Motorsports. Turner Motorsports acquired select assets of Braun Racing toward the end of last season.
Kasey Kahne will again be behind the wheel for Great Clips in eight races in 2011, beginning in Daytona. Jason Leffler also returns to pilot the car in the other 26 races on the schedule. Last year, Leffler finished in ninth place overall, and has finished in the top 10 in the final Nationwide Series standings for three consecutive seasons.
“There’s been tremendous value for our brand with our NASCAR sponsorship over the past nine years,” said Terri Miller, vice president of marketing and communications for Great Clips. “With Turner Motorsports taking over, they’ve put our team in a great position this year to compete for the Nationwide Series championship. We’re looking forward to an exciting 2011 season.”
Also returning to the Great Clips racing team is Camping World Truck Series driver Brad Sweet. Sweet will race the first eight races of the season for Great Clips.
