Leffler Looks to Tame the "Monster" at Dover International Speedway

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 23, 2010—Jason Leffler and the No. 38 Great Clips Toyota travel to Dover International Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 25, where Leffler looks to continue his success at the “Monster Mile.” In 14 Nationwide Series starts at Dover, Leffler has four top-five and eight top-10 finishes. His best performance at the one-mile track came in 2005 when he started 12th and finished third in Braun Racing’s No. 32 entry. He has posted top-10 finishes in his last four visits to the track

“The Dover race is always an exciting one. Everyone compares it to a Bristol on steroids and that’s a pretty good description for it. There’s a good reason they call it the “Monster Mile.” For a one-mile track, it’s really fast,” said Leffler.  “Being able to charge hard into the corners so you can keep up your momentum on the straight-aways is really important. It’s a place where to be fast, you have to be right on the edge with your set-up.”

Dover has proven to be a good track for Leffler, as his first NASCAR win came at Dover in 2003 during a World Truck Series. After starting the race in 10th position, Leffler led for 57 laps before claiming the win. According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics, Leffler is ranked in the top-10 in a number of categories including Closers (2nd) and Laps in the Top-15 (2nd). Leffler leads the field in passing with the breakdown as follows: Passes on the Frontstretch (2nd) and Passes on the Backstretch (7th). He is ranked first in passing in turns one and four.

“My first NASCAR win came at Dover in 2003 when I was racing in the Truck Series,” said Leffler. “So I have good memories there, but I’d certainly like to make a new memory with a win this weekend in the 38 Great Clips Camry!”

The Dover 200 race will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and on MRN Radio affiliates. Coverage begins at 3 p.m. EST with the green flag scheduled to drop at 3:30 p.m. EST. Leffler currently sits in ninth place overall in the Nationwide Series standings.
