Great Clips Franchisee Has Different Approach to Retirement

MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 31, 2011 much for retirement. Usually a time reserved for relaxing, traveling and volunteering, “retirement” has been the opposite for Dick Burke, one of Great Clips’ newest franchisees in the Houston market.

Prior to owning a Great Clips franchise, Burke spent 27 years in the industrial supply business—including owning two companies supplying valves, fittings, pipe, and other industrial material to oil refineries, chemical companies and other industrial operations around the Houston area.  Burke eventually sold those companies at the end of 2009.

After a successful 27-year career, Burke decided it was time for “retirement.” After six months of your prototypical retirement, Burke quickly realized that he was not cut out for sitting around not doing anything. After looking around at a variety of business opportunities, friend and current Great Clips franchisee, Ed Neumayr, brought up the Great Clips brand.

“I knew Ed and after talking with him, I decided that Great Clips would provide the greatest opportunity for me and my family,” said Burke.

So what exactly was it about the Great Clips franchise system that appealed to Burke? When analyzing all the options, three main areas about Great Clips stood out, according to Burke.

People: “Everyone I met, from shop owners to corporate associates, were all top notch professional people. Everyone was willing to help with whatever issue or question I might have had.”

Support: “Great Clips has established a proven process for a person to follow in order to optimize the chances for success. Other franchise opportunities seemed to be willing to take my money, but none offered the continuing education and support like Great Clips.”

Timing: “Houston is the fourth largest city in the United States. It currently has 27 Great Clips salons. In talking with Laura Fridgen, franchise development manager at Great Clips, Inc., it seems that Great Clips is looking to rapidly expand the local market. This is a perfect time to jump on board.”

While most people look forward to retirement as a time to stop working, for Burke, retirement means starting his next business venture.

“My wife and I are looking forward to many years of exciting times growing our business and helping Great Clips become the best brand it can,” said Burke.
