MINNEAPOLIS, July 16, 2012—In its nearly 30 years of existence, Great Clips, Inc. has had a history of giving back, and that tradition continues strong. The Great Clips Charity Golf Classic raised a net $285,000 at this year’s event held on June 25, at Golden Valley Golf and Country Club, Golden Valley, Minnesota.
The Great Clips Charity Golf Classic began in 1997 as a means to provide funding and awareness for underfunded but necessary programs at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. The event is a collaborative effort between the Great Clips corporate office in Edina, Minn., and The Children’s Association – Minneapolis and Children’s Hospital Association – St. Paul. To date, this event has raised $2.8 million for the needed programs at Children’s, thanks to our participants.
This year’s donations have been earmarked to the Family Needs Fund. Caring for a child can be an expensive and unexpected cost for a family. Children’s is able to relieve some of the burden this places on families by offsetting certain costs associated with their visit. Children’s encourages families to be involved and active in their child’s care, however, this can be difficult for families who live far away. The Family Needs Fund helps to provide hotel stays for these families so they can spend more time learning about and participating in their child’s treatment as opposed to traveling back and forth between their home and the hospital. If necessary, Children’s also helps provide transportation to follow up visits to ensure that the children are able to receive the necessary continued care. Other daily expenses that the fund helps to cover include parking assistance and meal coupons. While the Family Needs Fund supports all Children’s patients and families, those receiving long-term care, including hematology and oncology families, benefits the most from this generous philanthropic support.
Before joining the Classic in the afternoon, the Great Clips Racing team, including Kasey Kahne, , and Brad Sweet, visited the kids at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, participating in the first-ever Great Bubble-a-Thon event.
Also supporting Children’s, the local Great Clips salon community has raised more than $1 million through cut-a-thons and other eventsover the past 20 years. Those fund have to supported various underfunded programs at Children’s as well as Children’s School Re-Entry Program.through events such as cut-a-thons.
