Short Fade Haircut

Bold Clean Fashionable

The short fade haircut features longer hair on top with shorter hair on the back and sides that gradually decreases in length until it seamlessly “fades” into the skin. The length of the sides can vary, and it is typically indicated by the hair clipper “guard number,” which falls between 0 and 8. Fade haircuts are great for both textured and non-textured hair.

Apply a styling cream to damp hair. Blow dry your hair with medium or high heat, lifting at the roots to create volume. At the front of the haircut, where the hair is longest, use a brush and comb upwards while drying, following the brush with the hairdryer. Finish with gel or hairspray to secure your style.

Towel dry hair. Add a curl taming cream or mousse specifically for curly hair. Let hair air dry for a little longer. When hair is damp, dry hair using a diffuser, scrunching hair with the diffuser or with hands to create more definition in curls. When hair is completely dry, gently brush through curls with a brush or fingers.

What to tell your stylist

Love this haircut? Here's what to tell your stylist so you can get this look.

I’d like a short fade haircut. I'd like to leave the top long enough for it to stand up when I style it, then gradually fade down through the back and sides. I’d like to clean up the back of the neck so the hair is even across the back.”
